Prom Promise reenactment event at OHS

Junior and Senior students watch the mock drunk driving accident outside OHS.

In preparation for Prom this upcoming weekend, Oxford High School has partnered with the Oxford Police Department, Baptist Memorial Emergency Hospital, Hospital Wing, and the Oxford Fire Department to put on a reenactment of a drunk driving incident for the students that will be attending this year's prom.

The mock drunk driving accident, also known as the "Prom Promise", included both junior and senior students who served as actors for this demonstration. The reenactment involved a car accident between a mother and her young child and four high school students leaving prom, one of whom had been drinking.

After the "collision", police officers, ambulances, fire trucks, and the coroner fled to the scene where the students actors were screaming, crying, and in complete panic. The Wings helicopter arrived shortly after to transport one of the students to a hospital.

Both teachers and students thought this reenactment to be very important for the students to experience prior to attending prom this weekend. Henry McDavid, a junior at OHS, said that watching the reenactment was very effective. "Everyone took it seriously. It was definitely scarier because it was so easy to visualize", said McDavid.
