Oxford water tower dedication to Madkins

John Madkins leaves a powerful impact in the Oxford community. 




On Wednesday, during a ceremony, the oxford Water tower was finally dedicated to John Madkin's Jr. after his 47 years of hard work. Madkin's son, wife, and daughter stand together during the cermony for Madkin's. 



OXFORD- After working for Oxford water tower for 47 years, John Madkins, an employee who left an impression to the Oxford committee, passed away on November 20, 2013 at 66 years of age.  Madkins left a great impression on his co-workers as well as his community around him. People went on to say that his heart was the size of the water tower.

He had began working for the city of Oxford in the public works at only 18 years old. Madkins worked full time until 2006 when he decided to take part time hours. His clients and people that he's helped throughout the years have surrounded his family during the ceremony detecting to Madkins. Superintendent Chad McLurry said Madkins was a special man with many talents.

Members of the community went around and talked about their fond memories of Madkin. City Engieneer Bart Robinson talked about the time Madkin's helped a water main that had broke, "John walked to his truck and grabbed a shovel and started wiggling the handle and I thought, "What in the world was he doing," Robin went on to say. "He walks back over and sticks the end of the shovel in the pipe, saws it off and stops the leak.

A stone monument, on Wednesday,was then finally dedicating the tower to the Madkin's family after his dedication throughout the years. It was revealed ruing the ceremony. His family happily stood for a picture during the ceremony for Madkins. "He loved his job," said Madkin's wife, Ruby. "He talked about it every day he came home."

Madkin's left a great impression on the community of Oxford and will be remembered for his hard work for generations to come. "It's wonderful," Ruby said looking at the monument. "I think it's a great thing they did for him."
