Mock drunk driving accident

Students from OHS act out a mock drunk driving accident for juniors and seniors who will be attending prom.

The skit helped to show students the seriousness and effects of drinking and driving.

Oxford High School drama students act out a drunk driving accident for their junior and senior classmates to help demonstrate the seriousness of driving under the influence. The performance really hit home for a lot of the students who have had this issue impact their lives already.

"I thought the event was really helpful to the students to learn about drunk driving, and if they ever get into one, they will know what to do and what will happen," OHS junior Thaxton Miller said, "I think this had a good impact and I think the students will end up making the choice not to drink and drive."

After the scene, the students were ushered into a gym where a speaker, Ben Shannon, told of his driving-under-the-influence experience. In 2004 Shannon plowed into a pine tree that led him to several weeks in the hospital with severe injuries. Shannon's dreams of becoming a medic in the military were no longer possible after lost of his right leg.

OPD officers told students they would be out Saturday looking for those under the influence and encouraged them to make the right choices.

  1. It’s a good idea to demonstrate seriousness of drunk driving to students. Teens must be made aware of safe driving before they begin to drive. A DUI arrest is a serious situation and experienced, effective representation by a specialized DUI attorney Los Angeles is an essential part of obtaining best possible outcome in your favor.
